That feels pretty obsolete, isn’t it? So as we gravitated towards the digital platforms for our needs, the brands and businesses changed how they used technology for marketing and provide digital services.

So when you see ads on your Facebook account for a product that you bought or even browsed on an e-commerce website, you already have become a part of what we call ‘Online Marketing’ or better-‘Digital Marketing’. So if taking on Digital Marketing jobs is on your mind lately, you are at the right place, my friends!

Like I said earlier, with the shift of the services towards a virtual platform, you knowingly or unknowingly are pulled into the Digital Marketing era. So before you transform into a marketer, let us have a basic understanding of Digital Marketing and the way it works.

Defining Digital Marketing

As the name suggests, it is a marketing method that uses the components we rely on for almost everything. You guessed it right! Electronic gadgets. Basically, it utilizes the internet and digital technologies such as computers, mobile phones, and other digital media and platforms to promote products and services.

Now we briefly touched upon the Digital Marketing definition, you might as well want to know the different kinds before carving your path towards it.

Types of Digital Marketing:
1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

You might have come across SEO or have heard Youtubers pondering over it often. Very frankly, its main goal is to attract more eyeballs. What?! Quite common yet seems complicated enough…! There, I feel you. But answer this question for me. Do you visit every search when you google your query? Never, right? We just brush through the first 3-4 searches and voila! We’re done. But what about the rest of the content put out to be read?

Here comes the mighty SEO for their rescue. It helps in improving the visibility of business websites and brand-related content, to get to rank higher in Google search results, optimizing the content by using popular keywords and phrases. Brand Awareness is on the top of their mind because ‘visibility’ is the key people..!

2. Pay Per Click (PPC):

Ever bothered by the sudden apps that keep popping up while you are watching your favorite season on Youtube or Netflix? While most of us tend to ignore or skip them, we are unaware of the fact that they quite amusingly are one of the popular though short-term forms of Digital marketing. It is a common advertising model in internet marketing that allows advertisers to place ads on search engines, social media platforms, and third-party websites, paying a fee whenever the ad is clicked. So before you ignore an ad while browsing, don’t forget to greet them as they are there to stay..!

3. Social Media Marketing:

Now, who doesn’t have a Facebook account or a Twitter handle or are active on Insta. But let's accept it. We can’t sit idle and avoid browsing Facebook for no reason.

You might have encountered several pages of a variety of brands with moving and thought-provoking ads like ‘Flipkart rooting for equal rules for an equal generation with the tagline: 'Naye India ke sath' or Vicks voicing out a child with a condition called Ichthyosis calling for the love, care and adoption, with the hashtag #Touch Of Care. Brought you to tears and you will remember them forever, won’t you? That’s the power of Social Media and that’s how the brands are using these platforms to expand their horizons while making them people-inclusive. The Internet's ability to reach billions across the globe has given online word of mouth a powerful voice and far reach.

4. Content Marketing:

Let's define it as a type of long-term Digital marketing strategy which involves producing relevant and consistent content, building a strong relationship with your target audience.

Sounds pretty much similar to what we are doing right now..! Exactly, simply put, it is a way to communicate (and not always promote a product) with the audience, proving the information they might have been hitting their head on for days. Imagine researching for a smartphone to buy on a budget, but with so many options lying around, you are more confused than ever. The search engines then provide a customized solution for you in the form of blog posts, vlogs, picture montages, you name it, you have it.

However, visibility again is the priority because unless a blog post is seen, its content is hidden, almost of little to no use, if not read or found. Hence, you must pay close attention to content placement and look for avenues that will provide you with maximum visibility.

5. Email Marketing:

Seems like a decades-old technology after Social Media and SEO hit the road? If not correct enough, we definitely pay more attention to an email that just popped into our inbox rather than scrolling through webpages or the social media platforms, because it already reached you. The use of automated newsletters is common in this context. But to stay in sight rather than getting lost in the spam folders you must be trustworthy, relevant, conversational, coordinated across channels, and strategic

6. Affiliate Marketing:

Ever noticed some of your favorite vloggers endorsing a brand out of the blue in the video? You will be quite amused that this technology is using people (often influencers) to reach more people. Here the target is again to create brand awareness and convert at least some of their huge fan following into profitable leads for themselves. It is a performance-based exercise that enables revenue sharing and pay-per-sale (PPS) compensation within a common network. Though it seems cool and quite profitable, it should be well-researched to work.

Apart from the above mentioned Digital Marketing Strategies, a special mention to some other forms such as Mobile Marketing which includes sending marketing messages through SMS and push notifications which we often seem to ignore but are a time-tested way of getting our attention; and last but not the least-Radio Marketing which again has a huge user-base and come on, who doesn’t fan a favorite RJ and swoon over their dreamy voices! Well, they automatically are a great way to get a business or brand heard.
